When you started your site you most likely copied snippets of code to add to your site and pasted them into your theme file. This is a problem when your theme gets updated. In this video, we will show you how to update a WordPress theme without losing customization.

Start by using a FTP program like Filezilla to connect to your site and copy your theme files.

Next get recent copy of your updated theme.

If you know the changes you made you can copy and move them to the new file.

If you don’t remember everything just install a file comparison software.

WinMerge is for Windows and Kaleidoscope is for mac.

You can then compare the changes add move over what you added to the new theme.

Finally upload your updated theme.
