Rate this post

Today we will be talking about how to use the Featured Image Option in a WordPress Post or page. The FEATURED image is the image that appears at the top of the post or page. Remember that this option may vary from theme to theme in terms of its size and placement. We will be looking at the option in the default WordPress 2015 theme.

Turning on the Featured Image option

Typically, when you scroll down the right hand side, you will see the option labeled featured image. If you don’t see it, scroll to the top of the screen, click on the Screen Options, and click on the checkbox labeled Featured image. Minimize the Screen Options, and scroll down the right side of your post or page to see the Featured Image option.

The Image Used for the Featured Image Option

The size and placement of the Featured Image may differ from theme to theme, so you may need to check it before adding an image to your post or page. In the Twenty Fifteen theme, the size of the image to take up the top of the screen is 716 x 509 pixels. If you don’t use an image of this size then the image will appear to be centered and cropped at the top of your post or page.

Inserting the Featured Image

In order to add the Featured Image:

1 – You should be logged into the WordPress Administrator
2 – Open a new Post or Page or edit an existing Post or Page
3 – Scroll down the right hand side of the post page until you see Featured Image
4 – Click on Set Featured Image
5 – Choose or Upload the image in the media library
6 – Click on Publish or Update in order to save the change to your Post or Page
